Supper Club Development

Here at YWAM Leeds one of the projects that has been an idea on the back burner but is starting to get some more attention is the idea of starting a supper club.  The idea was first stumbled upon while watching Jamie Oliver's American Road Trip - New York Episode. It was an idea that always sound sweet as  and fairly possible.

For about a year it has been an idea that sounds good but when you start to break it down it is a little scarier thinking about asking for a £25-30 donation for something you cook- it definitely means you have to cook something worth while.

As I learned in 'What About Bob?' its all about baby steps.

Step 1: Bread is important.
Who doesn't love fresh bread? Fresh bread in my opinion sets the tone to a meal. I have gone a little bread crazy these last weeks. Basically the end result is I need to buy Peter Reinhart's 'The Bread Baker's Apprentice'. I have made my own sourdough starter and then my first sourdough loaf. I have since killed the starter as it was producing way to much alcohol and want some more info before I start it up again.

Step 2: Portion Control and Presentation.
The food budget has been a little tight of late and well the benefit of that has been for once I'm starting to think through portion size. Now unfortunately I haven't been making 3 course meals so we sometimes are still left feeling a little hungry. However, when doing 3+course portion control becomes much more important. As for presentation well sex(y) sells and same goes for food! Plus lets face it gourmet food is meant to be an art and art is all about the plinth- how you present.

Step 3: Fresh Herbs -Classic!
Well shortly after my bread obsession was starting to loose it all-consumingness I realised that if your going to cook amazing food it's all about quality. Now even though I have suggested trying to get a goat and chickens, a herb garden is quick and easy. Last weekend I blew some birthday money and spent the weekend sweating and exerting a ton of physical force to start a herb garden in the back yard. I planted blueberries (which aren't herbs but I miss them so much from Canada so I decided they were a must), oregano, thyme, flat parsley. I have chives, basil and coriander grown in started pots from seed, hoping and waiting for them to sprout.
Step 5:???
Not sure what is next maybe sauces, or learning butcher cuts. but i know I'm getting closer to starting the supper club. Hence the poll and wanting to know what you think we should name it. Poll is open for a month. Suggestion for other names are welcome but would appreciate it , if they had a social justice connotation to them and you need 5 votes to get the name on the official poll list. Results are unfortunately not show in the attempts to discourage to much favouritism. IF you think I should change this let me know. Results posted 31 June, 12:00pm!

Arts & Justice DTS - Sept.

Arts &Justice DTS
 Sept. 2012-2013

In 2009 we started our little team. Last year, Dave (http://www.davenevard.com/) joined us to facilitate art and overseas projects. It's been an amazing last year. It's an adventure with a pretty steep learning curve. We have big hearts for such a small team. We are really excited about being involved in the London Olympics. Which ends our crazy summer and leads us to September and our first DTS (Discipleship Training School) in Leeds.

The Arts & Justice DTS is an internship style over the course of a year. It is going to be an adventure, and one we pray will absolutely change everyone who is a part of it.  It will be this mix of creativity, looking at global issues, and learning how to actually bring change in the midst of it all.

we love to have you be apart of it:

August 24-7 Prayer

At the end of July we moved house, about a 5min bike ride from where we use to live. It was a little bit of upgrade, which is nice, and meant that we have a large spare room. As a team we decide that this room would best serve us as a boiler prayer room. We also felt like to start out living in the new house but dedicating a a period of being deep in God's presence.

Therefore, for the month of August the 3 of us have committed to running 24-7 prayer. Starting on the first day of prayer we cleared the room and built or prayer room. Then starting at 9pm that same day we started reading the bible from start to end. Today we are on the last pages and are hoping to finish.

We have opened the room to anyone in the community or anyone who wants to make there way here to pray for God's release of life changing power to our city and our nation. Feel free to get in contact with us:

Olympic Inspiration

Having made their way up north, we just had the pleasure of hosting a team from YWAM Harpenden who are co-ordinating outreaches across the country before, during and after the Olympic games. The ‘Forever’ team are working with ‘More than Gold’ in helping churches catch vision of the amazing opportunity for using the upcoming Olympics as a springboard to engage with our local communities and those that visit us from overseas during this incredible event. The world is coming to our doorstep! It was great to hear some ideas from the Forever team and has got us thinking about how we can get involved either here on home turf of maybe in our nearest Olympic city – Manchester. If you want to learn more about how to use the Olympics as a catalyst for missions and serving your community check out the following websites:
